Who We Are

Ko Māui Hangarau began its life as part of the Tauranga Groundswell Festival of Innovation 2018. We wanted to provide a platform to help Rangatahi Māori accelerate their pathway to success in the technology & innovation space.

Due to the success of the first KMH event in August 2018, and based on overwhelming demand, we are scaling the events programme across the country in 2020, and into 2021.

KMH operates as a not-for-profit social enterprise.

Our Objectives

To awaken, inspire and ignite rangatahi Māori.

To open the minds of our rangatahi to the world of Māori in Technology & Innovation.

To promote te Reo me ōna Tikanga at every opportunity.

To follow in the footsteps of the greatest Māori innovator of them all – Māui!

Our Messaging

“If I can see success, I can be success!” – I can better connect with, people that look like me, sound like me, and have a similar story to me.

“Innovation is ingrained in our DNA!” – because my ancestors were innovators, through whakapapa I am also an Innovator.

Kia ora! I would just like to express my gratitude for being able to attend the 2018 event! I'm now studying fashion design at AUT and going to the event made me much more confident in my own ability to perform and also informed me of the great success that other Maori have had in creative and tech industries. I hope that this year there will be an awesome turn out and all the attendees will have as much fun as I did!
