Kiwa is a published author, accomplished public speaker and communicator. A highly experienced Māori language specialist, Kiwa led the translation of the history-making Te Ture mō Te Reo Māori – Māori Language Act 2016, the first piece of New Zealand government legislation to be fully translated and enacted in te reo Māori.

He is a former lecturer in Te Kawa ā Māui – School of Māori Studies, Victoria University of Wellington, and has developed further his teaching and trainer skills as a lead facilitator of AATEA Solutions. He has been a national moderator for the public sector, delivered many training programmes, and provided advisory services on Māori cultural matters to crown agencies, community organisations, and businesses and corporations.

Kiwa actively co-ordinates and facilitate wānanga (schools of learning) in the community. This includes the teaching of te reo Māori (Māori language), tikanga (customary practices), mau rākau (martial arts), waiata/haka (traditional performance), whaikōrero/karanga (oratory), whakapapa (genealogy) and karakia (ritual affirmations).
